Signs You Need New Brick Construction & Extensions in Toronto

Home Additions and Second-Floor Extensions

Matching existing brick on a home addition requires careful selection, sourcing, and mortar matching — new brick construction looks out of place when the brick colour, size, or mortar joint profile doesn't match the main structure.

Garden Walls, Fences, and Pilasters

Brick garden walls, boundary walls, and pilasters require proper foundations, movement joints, and copings to survive Toronto winters without cracking from frost heave or temperature cycling.

Our New Brick Construction & Extensions Process in Toronto

01

Layout, Foundation, and First Course

The foundation ledger or footing is inspected and prepared. The first course is laid out dry, using line and level, to establish the bond pattern, gauge spacing, and any offsets or reveals before any mortar is placed. Getting the first course right in both dimensions and level determines the quality of every course that follows.

02

Wall Construction to Design Height

Brick is laid using the full mortar-bond method with properly gauged joints — 10 mm nominal. Perpends are maintained in plumb; courses are checked for level every four to six courses. Lintels are set at all opening heads at the correct bearing length. Weep holes are installed at the base of each cavity course.

03

Topping Out and Detailing

At the designed wall height, brick is corbelled or set to the specified coping detail. Control joints are cut or formed at the design-specified intervals, typically every 6–8 m in run. All exposed joint work is tooled to the specified profile on the same day as laying to ensure consistent colour and texture throughout the wall.
